Inspiration can strike at any time, like when travelling in Vietnam. We met this incredible family who taught us how to make our own tofu from scratch and immediately returning home I started on my very own kit.

What started as a small project for my partner’s bedside water glass has now quickly become one of my favourite pieces to date.
Focusing on simplicity, I chose only two materials. Birch Ply which wraps from either end for that continuous grain look, and local Tasmanian Oak as the internal framing comes as a nice punch of contrast. Locking the table sides together is a tusk tenon joint featuring two wedges of oak secured in place.

Formed from a salvaged pallet this low lying table contains a unique mixture of Australian Gums, ranging from light to deep red lengths. The contrast between the filled holes and scratches to the timber tells a subtle story of its making.
